Septic System Questions & Answers

Practical answers for homeowners who are deciding whether they need pumping, inspection, repair or another septic service.

How often should I have my septic tank pumped?

There is no one schedule for every property. Tank size, household size, water use and the system’s condition all matter. If the previous pumping date is unknown, Southland Septic can help set a practical service interval from that starting point.

What are common signs of septic trouble?

Slow drains, gurgling fixtures, sewage odors, wastewater backing up, standing water or unusually green growth near the drain field are all reasons to take a closer look. Because several problems can create the same symptom, the cause should be evaluated before deciding on a repair.

Does a septic backup always mean I need a new system?

No. A backup can come from a tank that needs service, a piping problem, a tank component or a drain-field issue. The system should be checked before assuming a full replacement is the answer.

Do you install new septic systems?

Yes. Southland Septic handles new septic installations, system replacement and drain-field repair or replacement within its service area.

Do you perform septic inspections for real estate?

Yes. Buyers, sellers and realtors can schedule real-estate septic inspections. If the tank access is not known, locating can be coordinated as part of preparing for the inspection.

Do you provide emergency septic service?

Yes. Southland Septic offers emergency service. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and weekends are on call. Phone 803-837-1457 to confirm current response availability.

What areas does Southland Septic serve?

Southland Septic is based in Gilbert and lists Lexington, Saluda, Batesburg-Leesville, Aiken and Edgefield as primary service areas, with additional coverage including Pelion and Wagener within an approximately 50-mile radius.

Do you offer free estimates or financing?
